A Metro Mass Transit bus caught fire, and the driver gives a chilling account of how over 70 passengers were saved.

Another tragedy on the Kumasi-Accra road would have occurred if it hadn't been for the heroics of a Metro Mass motorist, Maxwell Akrofi.

Maxwell Akrofi was driving Metro Mass Transit machine with enrollment number GS 3611-Z and was bound for Agya Prayer Camp, a popular prayer center at Ejisu-Adadientem, run by the Church of Pentecost.

The over 70 passengers escaped unhurt after the machine caught fire around Tech Police Station Monday night.

Speaking on Akoma FM ‘s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma, the motorist reported to host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin how the machine caught fire.

“ But for my in- depth knowledge and decades of experience behind the bus and God’s intervention, a different story might have been told,” he said.

Giving a nipping account of the incident, Maxwell Akrofi explained that “ I smelled an unusual scent from the machine so I stopped the machine and ordered all the passengers to get down also I removed the battery from the machine hoping that it would balk any electrical mishaps.

But a many twinkles after I removed the battery, I realized sparks of firebugs beneath the machine also the blaze boosted and razed down the machine while the passengers stood helpless”.

He explained fire help got to the scene several twinkles after the machine was burnt beyond recognition although there were no casualties.

On Tuesday, November 2, a analogous incident happed on the Akomadan stretch in the Ashanti Region after a machine burned and killed six persons, leaving dozens injured. The whole country was plunged into a state of mourning.
